Volunteering with a Charity of the Quarter: Flatirons Habitat for Humanity

*Their Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live.*

11245505_891968200845025_2334196593036327825_nOn Friday, seven our staff members traveled up to Jamestown for the day to help rebuild a home that was destroyed by the 2013 floods in Colorado. They were very humbled by the opportunity to help out a family in this nearby community. Habitat for Humanity not only builds new homes for families in need, but has created a new program to help with the rebuilding and replacement of homes destroyed by natural disasters. Flatirons Habitat for Humanity (FHFH) started the Critical Home Repair/ReBuild program as a way to expand the ability to provide decent and affordable housing for hard-working families, and to assist those affected by the 2013 September flooding in our community.

“I loved being up there, hands on, helping in some way.  I had no idea how bad it was up there.  I loved talking to the residents of11227656_891968660844979_7337516669075359801_n the home, and also seeing local Jamestown residents out walking their dogs and stopping to say ‘thank you’ for helping out’. It was really amazing.” said Sara Hoffman. RSS feels extremely fortunate to be able to help the community in Jamestown in this way and are hoping to send another team up to help with another home later this summer.  If you are interested in joining us in the future, please let us know.
Our agency proudly has selected Flatirons Habitat for Humanity as our Charity of the Quarter for April, May and June. Read more about what this means in our earlier blog post about this amazing organization. Also keep an eye out for more information in June about our “Garage Sale for a Cause” we will be hosting at our office.  All proceeds will benefit FHFH.
