*Our team packed 407 boxes of food for seniors in our community!*
On September 8, RSS sent a team of 14 people down to the Food Bank of the Rockies warehouse to volunteer. We spent the afternoon packing boxes of food for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). CSFP is a USDA program designed to improve the health of low-income people at least 60 years of age, by supplementing their diets with nutritious foods.
Eligible seniors receive a monthly food box consisting of non-perishable protein, milk (powdered or UHT), juice, cereal, canned or dried fruits and vegetables, refrigerated cheese nutrition education and recipes are also included in the food boxes.
FBR has several distribution sites throughout the Metro Denver area and they also utilize partner agencies to act as “host” sites to assist in outreach, certification and distribution of CSFP food boxes monthly to ensure no senior goes hungry.
The afternoon went very quickly as we were set up assembly line style doing everything from building boxes, filling the boxes with the designated items, completing orders for partner agencies, with plenty of cleanup and moving pallets and breaking down boxes for recycling. By the end of the day we had packed 407 boxes of food for senior citizens in our community totaling 12,291 pounds! We are so proud of our team for their generosity and hard work serving others.
We had a great time, worked hard and look forward to another opportunity to serve with Food Bank of the Rockies. We encourage you to learn more about the great work Food Bank of the Rockies is doing in our community and in our state. Don’t forget, as our Charity of the Quarter, we will be send FBR $10 for every referral we receive from our clients, friends and family. Thank you for your support!
